I just purchased stinger and pc interface (serial to usb) I have not had a lot of luck getting it installed. I received the CD with the driver on it for pda-usb plug. It did not auto run so I went to the folder and found setup.exe. It installed "correctly" but when I plugged in the usb cable the windows installer tried to find software etc. I was advised by divetank to hit cancel. I tried that and also tried to let it install after we were unable to get it to work.

I downloaded latest version of Dive Manager software from Suunto. Has anyone seen this problem and have a work through?

THere is a yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager under Modems next to "pda-serial" modem that installed from the CD. I am not sure it should be there. Shouldn't it show up under USB controllers instead?

Thanks!

Hey Bosshogg,
Like most installs the devil in in the details, what OS are you using and is it a PDA or laptop? Also I am not sure why you have an error in the Modem section, the USB cable asking for software should be the prompt.
Try uninstalling what you already have, keep the cd in the tray and after a reboot plug in the USB and serial gear all set up EXCEPT for the Dive computer of course.
When the USB device asks for the software follow the prompts and click on the HAVE DISK option if it lets you. Then, if it won't do it automatically navigate to a folder on the CD that matches your OS and ook for the .inf file that it needs. This MAY be a solution only. Feel free to PM me if it gets difficult.
I am sure you will get some more suggestions. :-)

I had som proplems setting my cobra up on my laptop, with the USBto Serial connector. I let windows XP search the disk, and it found the proper driver. I just checked my laptop, and with the converter cable pluged in, it shows up in the decice manager under Ports(COM & LPT) as a serial to usb bridge. Another thing I always noticed, is in Dive manage, I can never get the PC interface setup part to work. It can never find my cobra. But if I just go into the transfer screen for the cobra, it will always transfer. Also, I don't know if this is just for my setup, but I can only connect to the Cobra if the cable is in the USB port on my laptop that I had originally set it up on. It has something to do with the COM port.

I am still trying to figure this out. I was able to see the "bridge." But it would never let me download. One problem after another. I am going to try it again tonight. I got a cd that has a com port manager. That didn't help either.
