My PADI instructor kept forgetting to give me a dive log during my OW classes.. I noticed there are several online to buy.. Which one is the best to by? I figured a log is yet another one of those scuba items I don't want to just buy and assume it's the right thing.

The one I was leaning towards is a Binder style but I didn't know if they vary a whole lot.. Especially for different countries. Ebay seems to be a site I can't steer clear from and people from all over the world sell on there.. :-/

Thanks for any input! :o)

Thanks for sharing!!.. This is a great option, I can't believe I didn't think of it!. :o)

Too bad they don't make waterproof pages so I could keep my book or homemade book with my dive bag.. I have a terrible memory.. :-/

You might also considering starting your log using an electronic log. I use Macdive at home which keeps synced to a free program called Dive Log on my iPhone. It is really handy to have your entire log right in your pocket. On the plus side the computer based systems make it much easier to type in your comments and also track info like SAC rates and dive profiles, if your PDC can export them.

Well, you can print it out as DiveJones suggested, and you can easily buy a waterproof pouch from most dive centres or even ebay to keep your logs safe and dry!

I bought my waterproof paper from

Waterproof Paper | Waterproof Notebooks & Pens | Fast Shipping

standard letter size, and print 4 log book pages per sheet (double sided). It is quite durable, and works with both inkjet and laser printers.

I printed a full page color map that I made of a dive site and took it on a dive. It passed my test :)

OMG... This is awesome!!!!! Thanks for sharing!! I'm going to have to try this!.. I read that some people like to use notebooks... Waterproof notebook from that site even sounds nice. :o)

And also, waterproof pouch is a great idea!

Ten more votes for MacDive (or at least some form of digital log).

MacDive is amazing piece of software, records a LOT of info (gas consumption, gear, profiles, maps, photos, notes, etc..), as much or as little as you like. You can print out your dives if you really want to, you can sync them with your phone. You can look at all sorts of summary data, quickly figure out the last time you dived with a particular person or at a particular site.

Finally, the developer is wonderful. Every time I have had a tech support issue, he has answered email within minutes and fixed the problem immediately.

If you ever lose your carefully maintained paper log book, or drop it into the water, you will wish that you had a digital log book, backed up and secure.

Print your own and keep them in a 3 ring binder.
