Hi,

I'm a fairly new open water diver and was just wondering if any of the uhhhh "more experienced" divers out there have any tips or suggestions regarding the things you record in dive logs. At the moment mine read like lists of all i have seen and not much else.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Cheers

Feste

Since you're a PADI diver, your PADI logbook contains most essentials.
There's not much place in the comments section for very long story's :D

For me
Date-location-depth-divetime-useage of gas-buddy(if present)
All the rest depends on the dive or location.(things I need to remember)

hope it helps.

Some of the things that will be most useful on later review are:
What suit you had on, and was it warm enough for the water temp.
How much weight, and was it enough; how was it distributed, and did you feel well balanced.
What was the name of the dive site and, if applicable, the name of the charter operator that took you there; what did you like best about the site.
Did you experience any challenges that additional practice and/or training could help with, such as navigation, buoyancy control, ending with an appropriate quantity of air still in the cylinder.
Any gear changes you might want to try, such as hood too tight, poor dexterity with gloves, wish you had more yellow so your buddy could see you better, etc.

If you are using rental gear I deffinately agree that recording wetsuit vs. weight used is very helpful.

Also if rent gear you like, it's useful to record the name for future purchases.

I like to record the dives specific name & write "Repeat" next to those I want to dive again.

I usually note creatures and features that I saw; any problems that I encountered; stuff I learned (either about gear or about me or about my dive buddies), etc.

Like the others I like to record depth, air in and out, time in and out, what I saw, dive site name, buddy name etc.

But in addition to that, as has been mentioned already, most definitely put what you were wearing (ie wetsuit, drusuit, gloves, etc) and how much lead you were carrying and whether it felt like too much. That way, when you come back after a little break, you have a starting point to go from. You will be amazed how many people arrive on day one of a holiday having no clue how much lead they used when they last dived. It saves a lot of stress and guess work on day one of your holiday.

Happy diving.
