Hi all, looking to buy my first canister dive light. I have come to the conclusion that it would probably be best to buy something that will last forever and is very adaptable for what I want to do. I am a recreational diver based in Ireland so I’m diving in a lot of low-vis conditions, I want the light to also be suitable for tech diving as I hope after maybe another hundred dives or so I might explore that route. Originally I was set on the Orcatorch d630 v2 but have recently heard bad things. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and any positive or negative experience with the Orcatorch d630 v2 is greatly appreciated. All the best

No dive gear lasts forever unless you don't dive it, sadly. Kit gets bashed, especially on RHIBs.

Orcatorch D630 will work nicely. I found the light cone to be a bit too wide so there is some extra backscatter in very low-viz conditions (1-2 meters). The cable at least on v1 is just a bit too long so I had to make an extra loop around my hand when going into tight places and the switch is a bit of a pain in dry gloves. But it works really well for open water and you can't beat it in this price range.

Ammonite is really sweet but pretty expensive. You might also want to check Anchor who are based in Ireland and might give you a discount.

Do you know Gralmarine?
excellent equipment made in Poland, reliable and powerful.

I use the GL7 main head and I've been using for years the XML-3 head for difficult environments with a 13.6Ah battery

I'm really very happy with it

For a canister light my favourite currently isnprobably the Nanight cave 3, maybe the tec2 head is also suitable for you. You can have a look at it.

I find the specs interesting and my dive buddy has it. Also burntime and the outout modes I like.
As you are in europe. You may want ro have a look at the tilly tec Maxi Uni. There will be an update for a led module which will be very interesting for you. Also they plan for a bigger cell which will fit into it instead of the 3x 21700. That will allow for even more burn time.
Its not a canister light, but very good and long burn times. Advantage would be that it is cheaper and you can change the LED module with various options.

I've been diving with the Shark Artemis handheld as my primary light for six months now and like it a lot. They also make it in a canister version. Nice tight spot, but with enough spill to make a really nice light pattern. Reel diving in UK should be able to help you out.
