I was recently certified and need to purchase a knife. I don't mind spending more for a titanium if it's worth it. However, everyone says to attach the knife to the BC and the knife seems quite large to have it there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

yep, what H2Andy said.. it's not a weapon, bigger is not always better (at least that's what my wife tells me).

make sure whichever knife you buy, it is installed in a place with easy access and is secure, yet easy to remove/replace in the sheath... fumbling for a safety item causes undue, which isn't a good thing.

The type and size of the knife should be determined by your intended use for the knife.

Most folks would be better off skipping the big expensive knives and getting a small sharp blade for cutting and a pair of shears for snipping the things that can't be cut easily with the blade.

nod

or you could just forego the knife. i use a line cutter on my belt and a pair of EMT
shears in my pocket.

pencil sharpening???

that's why i have teeth!

(also, makes a great dive snack AND satisfies 100% USDA fiber requirements)

I don't understand the titanium blade phenomenon. Titanuim makes crappy blades. It's not hard enough ("it" meaning any of it's alloys). Forget the hype . I work with titanium, and while it's great for some things it's not a good matterial for a cutting tool. That's just my opinion.

Buy a cheap knife and a pair of shears. Then when you lose them you won't be heart broken or to poor to pick up a replacement. I bought a pair of titanium EMT shears at tractor supply and made a sheath out of two inch webbing some brass gromets and a shoelace. The whole project cost around ten bucks. I also found a stainless forearm sized knife that I attached to my slate.

Theres a link to the Knife site. Its also about the right size to mount on an inflator hose and it is cheap.

oh, good point

i've seen good EMT shears for $5.00 at my local mom and pop hardware store.
you can make your own sheath easy
