Are you still in Vietnam, or have you already relocated to Oz? Are you an Australian citizen?

The answers help figure out what the next steps could be.

Can you speak any other languages?

Honestly, Cairns is overrun with travelling dive instructors. Without some language skills (preferably Mandarin or Japanese) to set you apart, you might be better off setting your sights elsewhere.

Not really. The only people I know who are making a full time living out of it are those who actually own the dive shops. They employ additional instructors on a casual basis as needed, not full time. The job market in Australia at the moment is pretty weak - it's not just the dive industry - everyone's struggling. If you have a lot of retail sales experience, a coxswains ticket, or you're a mechanic or something like that, SELL THAT, because right now an instructors ticket alone may not get you far :)

You may have a problem, then. As I have understood it, 'working holiday' visas were primarily for accepting work in agricultural endeavors like fruit picking. Look at this to check my thinking.

Even if you overcome that hurdle, you'll probably find it pretty hard, if not impossible, to find an employer due to the Australian requirements that the employer has to satisfy to have you on paid staff, or because of restrictions on the type of visa you have.

No, he'll be right with a working holiday visa for 12 months. The "agricultural" thing refers to if you want to extend it beyond 12 months and requires you to work in a regional area. First 12 months is fine. Had a cousin come over here and do it a few years ago.

Plenty of backpackers do the dive guide thing in Australia on working holiday visas. No issues there. The main problem right now is simply the lack of work available. The market is oversaturated, and unless you've got some significant skillset to set you apart from everyone else, you will struggle.
