Krawlings and I were heading to Dive Haven for the first time! We were to meet up with the Atlanta Aquanauts there.

This morning started at about 5 am with the process of loading down Freddie with all my gear! Krawlings arrived early so we loaded his gear and we set out on our 1 hr and 50 minute drive(per mapquest) at 5:40am! We had to make a stop at the local kwik E mart for ice and coffee then, we set out on our journey.

We drove through several patches of thick fog(made for a fun time) along the way. Winding our way through some really rural area's of Georgia countryside and we finally arrive at Dive Haven!

It was about 7:50 and the staff was already there setting up for the days divers. We signed in, paid the nice young lady behind the register, and pick the peoples brain about the dive site. We decided to take a drive across the dam to check out the side of the quarry with the shovel,bus, and boats! We notice that they have nice easy entry docks that have steps going down 4-5' in the water. This made entering and exiting the water a breeze. The water around the rim of the quarry had a nice blue color to it, almost like diving in the Bahamas. I knew I was being deceived which got me all excited to see what was below the surface.:D

We set up our gear for the first dive and discussed the plans for our dives. We watched life slowly stir across the lake at the dive shop! Finally, we decided to go investigate what was going on! We met several other divers and discussed what their plan was and where they were going to park and dive from. We left them to finish checking in and headed back to the far side(opposite side of the dive shop) of the quarry. After waiting a few minutes and realize that the other divers must have changed their minds since they were setting up their gear on the opposite side of the lake.:confused: I guess, I really am that scary!:shocked2: The gear was ready at this point and so were we. We waded into the water and surface swam out passed the point. I took a bearing on the first buoy and dropped down 30'. We ran into the first boat right off the bat. We followed the wall down and around the cove dropping down to about 70' were we passed a line which I assumed headed to the car(supposedly in deep water). We came up slowly, did a safety stop for 3 minute, and then I recollected my bearings back toward another buoy.(That wasn't the plan but someone mention that the structures were not linked together:shakehead:, but we find out on the return they were!) I picked another buoy and we dropped down on the cars line. We find the top of the wall and swim toward the new bearing where their is another boat and then right beside it was a school bus. The signal was given to turn the dive and go to the dock! We surfaced just inside the cove not to far out from the point where it turn right back toward the dock(short surface swim compared to across the lake from the other docks).

Dive 1
Depth- 70'
Time= 1 hr
Vis- was 5'-10' between the depths 10-20'
Vis- was 10'-20' between the depths of 30-70'
Temps:
Surface-80o
20'-69o
30'-50o
70'-45o

Surface interval:Was 1 hr and 38 minutes. We discussed our first dive, re hydrated. and planned our next dive. Our surface interval was a little longer than we had planned for but we were enjoying the sunny weather.

Dive Two's plan was to go back into the cove and find the shovel. We dropped in front of the dock and rounded the point! We went down to about 15 feet trying to hit the boat again. This time I came up about 15' short of the buoy:shakehead:! Who moved that boat?:D Following the boat surface marker down, we circled it a few time, and then moved on to the bus! It has been a long time since I have been riding on the yellow cheese!:rofl3: After my short ride we moved on to the bigger boat! Again I did a few wake boarding flips and then moved on. Finally there was the shovel. I was impressed by the vis here and the massive size of this thing. To bad my camera is sitting on shore!:depressed: The dive is turned after a good look at the shovel. Following the orange pipe back to all the other structures and glancing them over again we head to the dock. We followed wall around the point and surfaced just before the dock.

Dive 2

Depth- 39'
Time= 1 hr 2 mins
Vis- was 5'-10' between the depths 10-20'
Vis- was 10'-15' at 30' of depth!
Temps:
Surface-80o
20'-57o
30'-48o

We planned on going to visit the group after a quick bite to eat! We stowed our gear in the truck and planned to return back there for one last dive with the camera hopefully.

We went over and talked to a few folks! Some getting ready to go in again and others coming in from doing a long surface swim from the other side of the lake.

We stayed a little to long and decided to call it a wrap for the day. There was a lot of places we wanted to see that we decided to save for another day. We packed our gear and snagged a few pictures. Then we pounded the pavement toward home! We stopped to drop off the tanks to get filled for our next dive.

It was an awesome day at a new place! Great weather, great diving, and great meeting new divers! :cool3:
