i'm a bit surprised to find out that dive gears get charged from flights in mexico. I'm coming in from Cabo and flying in mexico city before i get to cancun through mexicana airlines. after my dive trip in cozumel that would be 240usd.

hope someone out there can let me know which gear does not get charged? mask, snorkel, booties, fins, torch, hoodies, wetsuit.. most likely regulators and bcd's will definitley be charged.

Asked the airlines about this and the answer was - MAYBE.

Thanks in advance for your help

Unless you're packing it in a way that screams "Dive Gear here!", how would they know what's in your bag?

Haven't read any other cases of people being charged fees specifically for dive gear. Mainly it's a weight issue.

If you can fit some of your gear in your carry on bag, do that... that way, you'll have less stuff to put in a bag and maybe you can put it in your regular luggage... otherwise, as long as you're not going over your allowed baggage (I think it's 2 bags/person), you're ok and shouldn't have to pay any extra...

The Airlines I have flown with allows one bag of sports equipment free of charge including two trips to Cozumel, I always check on the airlines web page to confirm.

I have still been getting 2 bags free on international flights

Man it hasn't been 2 bags per person in...forever.

International flights always give you a 2 bag allowance.. unless you fly something like jetblue or some other charter type airline

Continential leaving on Sunday to CZM. 1 free bag, next bag $27.....

Flying Spirit from Detroit to Cancun in May - NO FREE BAGS except carry-on. I can't really complain because the flight was under 300$US return. I have another flight in July, also Detroit to Cancun return, but with Delta and the 1st bag is free. I think it is because I booked it when it was NorthWest Airlines.
