Scuba Dive and Together, Let's Make Cancer History
Steadily gaining momentum, the 3rd annual "Dive for a Cure", a 12-hour scuba diving and snorkeling charity event, will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2003 at the Etobicoke Olympium pool from 9am-9pm.
The goal of this event is to bring the dive community and non-dive community together to help raise funds and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society AND to promote scuba diving to the community. This event is for EVERYONE: scuba shops, scuba divers, scuba clubs, scuba training agencies, scuba manufacturers and non-divers. At the 2002 event, we had many of the scuba community assist with discover scubas, gear demos, lending tanks and even participating.
This "first of its kind" event held in Canada raised over $35,000 in 2001. 2002 was an even greater success; raising $95,000 and doubling the number of participants. Half of these participants Discovered Scuba and are probably getting their certifications! Local media and celebrities also spent the entire day "blowing bubbles".
We welcome certified divers as well as non-divers who want to "Discover Scuba" (ages 10+) with a minimum of $50 in pledges. Experienced divers can bring a relay team or be a marathon diver and raise a minimum of $1,000 in pledges. There are many "kewl" things to do underwater: try a scooter or communication gear, ride a bike, play volleyball, play slot hockey and even try out new gear. On dry land, there will be a $10,000 raffle, a silent auction with a wide variety of both scuba and non-scuba items, and entertainment including a DJ and seminars by well-known scuba professionals.
There are many other ways to support this event and to get involved; from corporate sponsorship, to donations of raffle prizes and silent auctions items, to volunteering your time, before, during or after the event. This is also a great opportunity for a club and/or store to participate, so why not bring out a team and take part in the relay, marathon relay or marathon diver categories and volunteer TOO!

We hope to see all of you on April 13th, and together "Let's Make Cancer History".
