I didn't see that last photo yesterday. That really clears up a great deal. To me, that is just too damn close for not having communicated with your vessel. To me, that is just rude. If I had been the smaller boat approaching your position, I would have hailed you on the radio first and asked permission to move in. Or at least, after having talked to you, would have at least stood off until you pulled anchor and left the position.

From other posts about dive flag laws, I've learned that just about every state has its own version. For you in Virginia, it appears that there is NO approaching within 25 yards. Where I'm at in Florida, depending on whether or not you're in navigatable waters, it seems you can approach a flag as long as speed is just adaquate to maintain steerage. Which I personally like better.

But by looking at that picture, they appear to be closer than 75 feet. Yes, I now believe that they were wrong, and at the very least extremely rude. Now I'll believe that your Captain drifted back into this guy to at least try and teach him some kind of lesson. But I'll bet he didn't get it. I appologise, you were right and I was wrong. In this case pictures make all the difference.
