Geez guys. You going to breakout the whips and bats next? No where in my post did I say that I thought the skills of the folks diving were subpar. I stated when there last dive was. That doesn't mean that they are inept. There is a difference between being concerned about someone underwater and thinking that they are a danger to themselves and others.

Let me rephrase the original question.

If you were coordinating a morning dive trip what would you do to make sure that everyone had a safe and fun trip?

I'll go cower in the corner and wait for the next beating.

I think if you reread the posts, your question has already been answered.
If it wasn't the answer you wanted, well...

Yes, if you think you've been misunderstood I'd suggest you have a mental block. Read your first post again.

My first thought was, Oh boy am I glad I'm not diving with that guy.

Were you the guy who always dictated the teams in sandlot baseball? Chill man, have fun.

I dunno ... I don't see this so much as supervising as I do coordinating. And that's not such a bad thing to instill in the new diver.

Just as long as you don't, in the process, create the expectation of dependency amongst your friends.

I would much rather see someone overthink a dive outing than underthink one ... the balance comes with experience.

I dunno either Bob, I think you and I both know a DM who had a hard time differentiating between supervising and controlling. Yet another subtle nuance.

My impression is that you trying to take on more than you ready for if you're getting so granular into the dive details JC. The stress you take on yourself isn't good for your buddy either,

Thanks Bob. You're my hero! I think you understood what I meant when I originally posted.

I'm not trying to lay down the law with this stuff, it's just ideas floating through my head and I was looking for feedback. Yeah I know I asked for it and got it I just think my tone was misunderstood. *shrug* no big deal.

Oh and please don't think I'm having a nervous breakdown over this stuff. They were just passing thoughts that went through my mind and thought I'd get an opinion. Did my post really give that impression?

I see alot more attempted supervising here (assigning buddies, etc) than coordinating.

Enough on this, its already been said twice at least.

Food. Who's bringing food, grill, drinks ect?

An outing like this needs food. Let every one grab a buddy of choice and plan their own dive but the trip planner should make sure that food plans are in place.

Yes, we did Chris ... and as I said, the balance comes with experience ... ;)
