I also used to regularly fly long distances for short stays in exotic locations. Just wearing the clothes on my back!

Diving is very good now in my opinion, the water is still cool so there is good vis and the north coast is calm. This really is my favourite time of year here.

The trades which keep the south side lumpy form much of the summer are blowing with gusto making the West End nice and cool! Rainy Season is behind us, bring on 6 months of excellent diving.

I have a layover in houston for I think 2 hours, so it's about 10 hours total flight time. As far as I know, no direct flights from SFO.

It definitely is a bit of a rush, but I just don't have alot of vacation days to spare this year.

Any additional updates are appreciated.

No one can tell what the weather in Roatan might be like in 2 days let alone farther in advance. I'm sure you'll be able to dive somewhere and have great dives. Conditions are often totally different on West End, South Side, South East Side and even the North Side. Just relax and enjoy your trip.

We were there last week and there was diving on all parts of the island even though the wind was up a bit.

Seriously dude,
You've gotten a bunch of valid and up to date info from some with a lot of Roatan experience. Stop worrying about it. Unless your thinking of cancelling your trip there is nothing you can do at all about it. Everyone has already told you to expect good diving but there are no guarantees. Relax, Decompress a little

RTB diver - fair enough :D

Although that is exactly the dilema right now, Do I cancel the trip?

I don't doubt there is still good diving down there. I just don't know if it's "fly 20 hours (RT) down there for 4 days total" good.

I don't know if 20mph winds are normal for this time of the year, but it seems like visibility would be quite crappy. Haven't ever had the opportunity to dive in Roatan, hard for me to say.

And I know "how good is the diving" is subjective and i'm not looking for a guarantee, but something along the lines of "this is pretty normal, visibility is 100+ ft despite the wind..." or "this is not the best week, hopefully the wind dies down in a week or so..."
would help out.

Cheers guys.
