I was wondering if there are any dive charters that are for sale ? I know that the economy is bad. I know that this BP problem offers more questions than answers. But in the last 2 years I bought alot of houses in bad housing times at a great price and turned them into great rental opportunity. With anything you invest in right now is a gamble. Now knowing all that, I'm still interested in a new challenge doing something that I love.

I'd Be happy to come work for you! Salary depends on what arrangements are made for my living conditions --- I typed that as a joke .. but I am actually very very jealous of the MV Spree crew

I have found that the quickest way to turn something you love into something you don't is make it your lifes work - that said, what you might consider is pick a place you like to dive, come on down, dive with them, and perhaps make an offer.

Business that are not for sale often are (as my friend Deepstops noted) for the right offer.

But why would you want to is my question?

Personally, with the capital investment involved (boats, insurance, personel - not to mention you might have to relocate, as managing a business of this type long distance is a really bad idea) - I'd keep doing what you are doing and dive when you want, w/out the investment and the hassle.

Its an old saying, but the quickest way to become a millionaire in the dive business is start as a multi millionaire.

I understand what you are saying. I have a love for the ocean, and I love to dive. Relocation is not a problem. I would never try to do this without moving. And its not about trying to make a million. My life now is more about being happy. not rich. Don't get me wrong lots of money would be great, But enough money to operate , Pay the bills and do something that would make me happy would be fine. I love Florida, the Keys, even the Carolinas are nice.

I highly recommend a couple of things before you invest your life savings.

1) Take a sabbatical from work and go work for a dive business for a couple of months. I know that you know that it's hard work but it is really, really, really, really HARD work.

2) Read Herman Wouk's Don't Stop the Carnival. I know, it's not about the dive business, but still...it's a great read and there are parallels. Don't buy it, see if your local library has a copy to borrow, because you are going to need every dime to run your dive business.

That said, I wish you luck and when I retire in 2020 to return part-time to the dive industry, maybe you'll hire me. :blinking:

Sorry Debby;
No retirement for you.
The aliens will attack and kill us all in the year 2019 on New Year's Eve.
I read all about it in a L. Ron Hubbard book.

Chug
May be in trouble about now.
