I'm looking for a dive camera that can be mounted to a speargun to get photos of hunts as the spear is shot. Its got to be small, so as not to impact my aim. And, I need one that is fast enough to catch a powerhead being shot. Any suggestions?

I hope you don't expect to hit your target. Anything you attach to the spear will effect its trajectory. Even if it were perfectly symetrical it would add tremedous drag and probably not have enough velocity to penetrate anything. Just attaching a camera no matter how small would add a steering vector to the spear. It is concievable that it could even travel in a full circle and come after YOU!! Or some innocent bystander.

I think he was talking about mounting it to the GUN not the SPEAR!

Bob3--Great Idea, but how would it work? Got any suggestions as to the makes and models?

being a conscientious diver, why would you want to spear fish?

And why ask people who dive to photograph marine animals how you can video killing one?

I had no idea that to enjoy photography I to join PETA. I think a video of great spear shot is a thing of beauty. Spearfishing, and photographs of the sport promote conservation.
BoB 3, any thoughts on the make or type of camera you suggested?

I disagree with several points in your message. First, spearfishing is one of those very controversial subjects. Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it wrong...just a choice you have made. Powerhead has every right to ask his question and expect respectful answers to it.

The spearfishermen I know are all extremely consciencous divers. Even more so because they spear fish. They are carefull of the environment and work hard to protect it for those very fish they hunt.

And I don't know about you, but the photographers I know are divers who photograph fish...we aren't photographers who dive. There IS a difference.

I still don't understand the original intention.
Do you want to see a photograph of what you are aiming at?

Underwater diving is a very equipment intensive sport and I've found that I want to shun as much of the accesories as I can - I no longer carry a knive and embraced air2 to reduce the number of hoses. Partly because of diving in CA kelp forests causes them to get snagged.
