Has anyone experienced US Airways while taking the dive caddy? Should I just be proactive and black out the logos?

For US Airways can I take the dive caddy as carry on and a smaller "purse size" carry on (e.g. laptop bag)? I would like to take my laptop with me instead of in my checked in suitcase. US Airways is anyhow nice enough to charge for international flights, so I am gauranteed to pay some check in fee.

Should be no problem. Worst case would be they will have you check the bag at the gate. You then should pick it up when you deplane at your destination. I haven't flown US Airways with mine, but I do have a shoulder bag with my labtop and my DiveCaddy system with me on over 12 flights and have had no problems.

Let us know how it works out for you.

We have taken ours on several trips already and have yet to have any problems with the airlines. Like anything else that has plastic components, we have had a couple of the buckles break. (They are relatively tough, but not made to be stepped on by overweight divers like me). I sent a email to Dive Caddy and within a couple of hours Chad emailed me back and we returned them to be replaced for free.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for the info guys. My flight is on April 22nd so I have time. BTW - Dive caddy support (Chad) is amazing. Not sure if I mentioned this before, but hey even if I did it's worth mentioning twice: They made a custom video for me on how to pack my bag with my equipment. Then mailed this to me. No charge, no hassle!

I must be missing something here because I recently took a liveaboard trip to the Red Sea (fine trip it was too!) and the carryon allowance wasn't just size but also weight limited to 5kg.
How do you get around the weight restriction?
This seems like a great way to pack but I fail to understand how you get all of that on the aircraft as "carry on"
I have read all the way through but, as I say, I must have missed that bit!

I am not sure what the deal is with a liveaboard (never been on on) but 5kg for DIVE equipment on a liveaboard seems wrong? I would think it's one of those "bring enough scuba gear for one person, plus some spares...we provide the weights tanks" - but I don't know about that.

As for planes, each airline is different and US Airways is either 30 or 40 lbs.

I just went to the Caymans with a layover each way - two flights. The bag fit in all of the overhead bins with my gear (which includes v16 fins, and probe XL, and 5MM akona full wetsuit, bc, drybox with batteries, and other regular gear). I didn't have a single problem. One of the planes requires me to turn my bag sideways (i could have removed the top pack, but the plane wasn't full so there wasn't a need)

The dive caddy saved me about $70 on checked luggage fees for one trip. :)

No, what I'm saying is an allowance of 20kg (+ an extra 5kg for being a diver - total 25kg) checkin luggage and then a 5-10kg of carryon luggage allowance. You guys are talking about getting all your dive gear on an aircraft as carryon. How?
Nothing to do with the liveaboard!

My carryon does not include weights/tanks...I don't take those with me (I don't know anyone who does, though I am sure it happens). Here is what I put in my carry-on:
Akona full 5mm wetsuit
Drybox full of batteries
Reg with Octopus, and temp/tank pressure gauge, and wireless transmitter
Dive Watch
7MM Hood
7MM Gloves
Booties (forget the name)
V16 fins (size large, for US size 12 foot)
Oceanic Probe LX BC (size large)
Lift Bag with D-ring clip
Snorkel
Small mesh duffebag (I mean really small, it barely holds my mask, reg, and gloves) and is fully collapsable so is barely noticeable)
Two SUN Tilos lights (mounts to my dive mask)
Dive mask

Stuff I put in my suitcase:
Dive Knife
Extra lights
Save-A-Dive Kit (large peanut butter jar full of dive goodies)
Clothing

Lets clear this up a little. Can you tell us what airline and destination you are talking about here?
