I'm looking for somebody/ or a group to go diving with.
I have surfed my entire life and finally became certified last year.
However, now that i spent my paycheck on all my dive equiptment
i have no buddy or friends in the area that dive. Im from san diego and moved to the bay to finish school at sjsu. If interested let me know, for i'm eager to get wet.

Welcome to scubaboard!

What I would do if I were you would be to go to your local dive shop, I think there are a few around your area, and talk to them a little and see if there are any local dive clubs you could join. Also when you're there grab a free California Diving News magazine and there is a dive club guide in the back for all of California.

I would imagine most of your diving you will probably do in Monterey, in fact there are several dive operators running out of Monterey you might want to check out.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive you could join the North Coast Divers up in Sonoma County for some real Northern California diving.
Go to: <http://www.northcoastdivers.org> and there is a schedule of dives and the locations.
All of our dives are shore dives and we pick a different spot each month. We are a varied group with some veterans and some newbies. All our spots would be OK for beginners unless we indicate differently on the schedule. There are no dues or monthly meetings. The dives are the meetings.

Sounds like you are most likely already familiar and comfortable in the water from your surfing experience so you should have a lot of fun.

There's what should be a pretty complete list of dive clubs at
http://www.garlic.com/~triblet/ba_diving/. California Sport Divers is a good bunch in
the SJSU area. Also, IIRC, SJSU has a dive program.

Hi there,

Welcome to NorCal. I'm free most weekends and some weekdays to go diving. PM me your info, and I'll take you out sometime. I've got a bunch of buddies to introduce to you as well. A lot of them are right here on this board. You know who you are!

If you're free this sunday, a bunch of us will be diving at Stillwater Cove on the North Coast. You can find more info at our club website at www.northcoastdivers.org.

SJSU also has a scuba class every semester, this fall will be Wed, Thur evenings and Friday mornings......there is some potential for new buddies there.

Lots of folks here are up for a dive with little encouragement. I'm moving this weekend but after that PM me and i'm usually up for getting cold.

Frank Barry from AWS teaches the SJSU classes, for many of us here that says enough. :)

I think only a few students who finish the classes at SJSU ever continue diving. Unless you are patient enough to dive with a newbie, you might want to find someone with more experience. It shouldn't be hard to find someone to dive on this forum, you can also post one on ba_diving at yahoo groups and you'll get some replies.

The great thing about the SCUBA class at SJSU is that you can spend an entire semester on skills and techniques. I was able to learn some things from AOW when I was in that class.
