I too am at the Cape most of the summer. My in-laws have a place in Dennisport and my wife and kids spend most the summer there. I am up there most weekends. I will be there Memorial day weekend for sure to help open up the house and cottage and I usually bring my gear down to at least get one dive in. I have another friend that dives off his boat for lobster. (he mostly launches out of Sandwich) He's had great luck with bugs off Manomoy point (sp?) and Scorton's ledge. Sent you a PM with my coordinates so you can contact me when down there again.

p.s. check out my photo gallery for picks of bug a buddy of mine caught. We threw it back.

Hi
That big one is amazing. Anyway, I am in W. Yarmouth so that would be great to try and get together. I know monomoy from striper trips but not Scortons. I have heard it is a challenging dive, due to the currents around mononomoy. I have heard the Sesuit area is less dangerous...I have not dove either. I did not know your meaning "Sent you a PM with my coordinates so you can contact me" . I down on most w/e's as well.

Thanks

no problem.. I have your coordinates. Hopefully, we'll get to get out memorial day weekend.
I have never run into current diving off Manomet point or Scortons Ledge. My last dive of Manomet mid August was very memorable. We dove a spot that had huge bolders with cool overhangs/bottom terrain. There we so schools of stripers, tautog and lots of huge bugs. Max depth was only about 33 feet. I can always ask my bud jeff for exact coordinates.

There is a casual dive club on the cape - Cape Dive Club. This is a great place to hook up with divers. Everyone is welcome to the monthly meetings. Check out the website at www.capediveclub.com
There is an email list you can sign up for too and you will get notices of any dives or events going on!

A casual dive club that charges $40 membership fee, and was started by buddies of one of the dive shop owners.

Maybe casual dive club is a poor description since they do charge $40 to become a member, but since I've joined I've met a lot of great people there who enjoy diving and have become good friends.

The other bonus is I've saved a lot of money diving with those friends, including the dive to the Port Hunter last Friday, and several dives last year.

OK, my apologies, my vocabulary is obviously not great. That is what I get for ditching English class too often! But I still think the Cape Dive Club is a casual club; that charges a $40 dollar individual membership fee and I should add $65.00 for an unlimited number of family members. There are legal fees good old Uncle Sam and the state charge us for starting a club; no matter how casual or informal we try to be. There are also costs associated with the website hosting, printing, club cook out & dinner costs, donations, speaker fees, etc. This does not make us bad guys!

Yes it is true and it is no secret that the club was started by several of us who either work or worked for the Dive Locker in Hyannis. But the club has no specific association or loyalty with any one specific store. We also do not ask any stores to "give discounts" to the club members, although a few stores have offered. The clubs intention is not to lead divers away from one store to another, but just to get people diving. This can only benefit the local dive stores. The club offers to happily advertise any store sales, classes, charters, promotions, etc - FOR FREE both in our newsletter and on our website. A few stores have even offered to lead some shore dives, offer demos or training, offer try scuba, etc. to club members and guests. I hope this continues!

Every month we remind the stores to take advantage of these opportunities. All stores are invited to our monthly meetings and when a store owner does show up - which sadly is not often - we offer them to share anything they want at our meetings or to speak to the members too. This is a great opportunity for the store owners to pick up new divers and more business.

Our monthly meetings are always free to members and non-members with the exception of when there is a guest speaker we have to pay for. Then the club asks for a small donation from non-members to attend the presentation. The club is now just turning one year old.

The Cape Dive Club is there to get divers diving, network and share our diving experiences. And to HAVE FUN!
