Sorry for the double post, but just found the Texas forum...

My wife and I have been diving for about 8 years. We used to go to Cozumel 2 or 3 times a year but then we had our first child together and we have decided on our first dive trip since he was born (18 months old). We are wanting to try something new. Now I am pretty much open to anything new and love to night dive and find all the sharks and big fish I can but she is plenty content just floating down a wall with a divemaster close by when I start going through the swimthroughs and get lost in my play. I have posted a few times and have said that we have free tickets anywhere American flies in the Contenintal US, Mex, or Carribean. After many recommendations I was set on Bonaire but the drive and dive did not tickle her fancy and she is a bit nervous about going somewhere new without a group. She is worried about security and our first try at going on our own using a compass did not fare so well. I think she would be fine but when describing what I have read she was like I want a DM or someone who knows what they are doing. She is not interested in diving as much as I am and refuses to do anymore night dives. Now she did say that a liveaboard sounds like fun; although it is a bit more expensive than we were wanting to deal with, I think that may end up being the best option for me as I will get to dive all I want, and certainly get in some night dives with people I meet on the trip. Now I was thinking maybe I could meet someone that was going on a trip that is in a similar circumstance and we can buddy up and go together. We are pretty much open as to when/where we go but I think the tickets have to either be booked or used by April 1st(getting confirmation soon). Our anniversary is at the end of March so I was thinking that may be a good time to go. So that being said we are in our early mid 30's and in the North Dallas area and am just posting to see what kind of response I get. Feel free to PM with any questions or suggestions. If you already have a trip planned that meets our requirements and would like some company let me know that as well. We have dove in Bahamas, Coz, Florida, and Cayman and would probably prefer something new.
Thanks and sorry for the long post,
Ken

Maybe you should just "Go Postal" some weekend and give the Gal a break :D
Shag out to Clear Springs and hang with the guys and do some lake diving.
Some of the fish are still out and your compass should work just as well there as in the tropics.
It's Only $20.00 a day and with all the savings you still have cash left over to spoil the baby  You can now live guilt free Dude !! Think about it! A life of true pleasure and freedom.
Of course there is always Lake Murray and Lake Broken Bow in Oklahoma

Who knew that adventure was so close to home huh? :14:

come on now laugh a little...

Live Aboards are more expensive, but think about what you are getting.

7 day vacation, 5 1/2 of which are typically diveable
up to 5 dives a day
great food
great service
You don't have to tote your stuff from a hotel to the boat .. because your boat is your hotel.

For a diving trip that you planned on doing allot of diving then a live aboard is a great way to go. I mean I typically spend around $1000 to go to cozumel for 4 days and have 2 days doing nothing, but 5 tank dives, for a grand total of 10 dives for the trip.

On a liveaboard you can spend under $2000 and dive for 5 days for a grand total of 25 dives. (I'm going to Turks & Caico's in June and I've spent right at 2200 for everything - flight, liveaboard, gas surcharge, etc. The only other money I will spend is for the meal on the last day and the crew tip.

If you do the math you get more bang for your dollar on a liveaboard IF you want to do pretty much nothing, but diving.

If you wanted to be more touristy then I would do the traditional route.

Doesn't really meet your schedule requirements, but I am planning a return trip to Ambergris Caye, Belize in November 2006. Went there for Thanksgiving 2005. Had an absolute blast ! ! ! Can't wait to go again. Other than that I am planning a trip to Coz in July.

I am also starting to look at Iceland as a possible dive trip. That's something different!

Sorry if my jump in here isn't appropriate but I'm on the verge of getting my OW certification and if all goes well as I have worked for I will be looking for some "older" dive buddies. I live in Rockwall and am retired. Before I spend a chunk of change getting all the gear I want to know I can find some "locales" to explore the local waters and beyond. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a thing against youngsters, I just like cruising around on weekdays when it's not so crowded. I'm really excited about this new adventure and hope to hook up with like minded folks.

Welcome to diving and to scubaboard. I just certified last August and have really enjoyed meeting folks on scubaboard and diving with them. I think you will have no problem. Keep us posted as to your progess.

Always someone "older" to dive with....there is a bunch of us 'old' guys/gals still hitting the waters.
