I'm going to Cozumel without my long time dive buddy I'll be meeting 2 other divers I'll be diving with. Has anybody ever buddied up with 2 people? Is it foolish? Should I just dive with a stranger as a buddy. What should my concerns be. Am I over-thinking this.

Diving in a group of three is fine.
More important would be how they measure up in your assesment of them.
Might be that you will have to deal with two dummy's instead of one.
Same can be said but with having two stellar divers to learn from.
I'd be thinking a simple check out dive with them to start out to see where they really stand.
Maybe sugar coat the wording of that first dive...maybe not.

There are dangers to 3-some diving. Buddy pairs are best. Look for a buddy on the boat, and ask him/her to help you keep the other pair in sight, but work closely with each other.

You might ask the Dive Guide to help you with buddy selection, and/or to keep an eye on your pair since you don't know the other guy well.

Most of my diving has been with boat-pick buddies, and alas - my bad experienceds lead me to get a pony bottle and become more self sufficent, but I still try to buddy up and be a good buddy.

Have fun. You're not going this week, are you? Check the Coz forum for adisories on Hurricane Earl. :D

I find a team of 3 more difficult then 2, but doable.
Most people consider themselves better than average drivers (that's "drivers", not divers), and yet it is impossible for the majority to be higher than the average. My point: With just 50+ dives, make sure you give any pick-up buddies a realistic assessment of your skill level.
