Hello! To all that do not know me (which is everyone since I am new) my name is Jay. I have been in the Chesapeake VA area for a while. BUt I have been deployed most of that time. Heres the deal I am getting back into diving in the states. I have mainly dove lakes near VA Tech and tropic. I need a dive buddy in the area to get me back in the water. I am not a person who likes to solo dive but it looks like I might have to lean that way unless I can find some other divers. If you are in the area and need a buddy or don't mind a third wheel please message me.

Hi Jay you wont have to worry about diving solo around here, just sign up for a trip from either Lynnhaven http://www.ldcscuba.com/ or Dive Quarters http://www.divequarters.com/ & you will find plenty of divers. I generally have to do this as my wife & normal dive buddy doesnt like the diving off the Va. coast.
Dive Quarters runs a 6-pack so they generally fill very quickly & weeks in advance. Lynnhaven runs 2 boats ( if the Lauren is back up ), but they hold 20 divers pretty comfortably.
What is your cert level? Lynnhaven will only let OW do the inshore wrecks & they require personal insurance such as DAN for all divers.
I dive with both shops & have a great time with each.
If your thinking about diving with either PM me & Ill see if I can make it. I just signed up for a long weekend of diving with DQ on the Marine Electric off the Eastern Shore for July 29 so I might have blown my dive budget for the month, but I might be able to squeeze 1 in.

Welcome to the board.
Come over to the NC board. We have a bunch of NC and VA divers who are diving most any weekend all year. The link is below my sig

Hi Jay ~
Did you go to VA Tech? Where did you dive? We are from SW VA and will be glad to let you know when our group is going diving at Rawlings!

I will be going to Lake Rawlings either Saturday 05 August or Sunday 06 August with a minor detour through Richmond on the way back.

I will let you know which day when I know.

Hey, everyone! I'd like to jump in on this thread as well. I live in Gloucester and am looking for some folks to dive with on a regular basis also. I've been out of the water for a couple of years but have gotten back into it over the summer. I'm Rescue Certified and used to work at Commonwealth Diving Supply. I'm going to Rawlings on the 18th of August with a couple of buddies, if anyone would like to join us please do. I like to explore other areas too and would like to meet adventurous buddies who may want to check out some other local lakes, rivers, etc.

This is worth a look even though most of these are a bit of a drive for us.

I would not mind getting in some braille dives in the Chesapeake.

Back in college I dove a few times in the Rappahannock River near a quarry that used to be open to diving. There was a bridge over the river at the spot and you can find "interesting" items under bridges. The quarry closed down but you could still dive in the river. During dry periods the 20' deep areas were crystal clear and you got a lot of bottom time. There was a Civil War pontoon crossing in the area and I heard you could find artifacts (although I only found a hub cap off a 50s Plymouth). I wish I could remember where the spot was at as it would be worth checking out again.

The Third Island can be pretty neat. I've seen some pretty big fish out there on occasion.
