 My wife and I are planning a few diving trips during the year and have struggled with finding the best dive and or trip insurance. I would appreciate it of you could give me some good tips, recommendations and personal experiences with certain companies etc...

I have continual dive coverage with DAN, everyone should have some type of dive coverage if you even consider the sport. DAN does trip insurance as well. I usually get the trip insurance through my local travel agent who actually plans the trip....just my two cents!!

where are you thinking about going? What type of diving are you looking for? I would be glad to help you for I am a dive travel agent with www.scubaplanners.com

as far as insurance yes i agree with JJM1631 that you should have DAN for divers insurance but for travel insurance Travelex is a good one which I can help you with that as well.

I need a little more information in order to point you in the right direction, you can also reach me at bbuchanan@scubaplanners.com

 I am a DAN Preferred member, but even that insurance doesn't cover everthing, or have very high limits. I've been checking out diveassure, which has higher limits of coverage than my DAN coverage and also cover several things the DAN doesn't include.

Anyone else out there have diveassure? Any comments?

Thanks,
Marta

I have diveassure for a couple of reasons. Primarily, their Diamond level covers the policy holder for trip cancellation/interruption because of family members NOT living with you, such as an elderly parent or child not living under your roof.

I submitted a claim for a trip interruption because of a hurricane. They reimbursed me more than what I calculated my losses to be. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with them.

If you want to compare the normal (non-dive) trip insurance policies, www.insuremytrip.com has a good comparison grid.

I did lots of research at DEMA and was very impressed with the coverages that Diveassure offered. You can get many different plans and some include trip insurance for as many trips as you care to take in a year. A bit costly up front but much, much cheaper than buying trip insurance for each trip you are going to take.

Thanks. I finally signed up for Dive Assure. I've got two trips booked up for Sept and Dec 07. I want to know that if the "worst happens", I am covered. My DAN insurance is good but doesn't cover very deep or for extras like trip cancellation.. I've never needed this type of insurance before but with so much money out on the line for several dive trips per year I feel that it behoves me to to think ahead.

Right now I am in a location where I cant get good access to the internet and no access to my personal files, but I use a company for medical coverage above DAN. Once I get home, I will PM it to you.

My thoughts are, DAN covers most dive related items and trip items, but , at least in my opinion, they dont cover very well other medical problems you could run into. The company I use covers you for all that DAN covers you for and much much more medically. I just suck on remembering names....AEG...AIG...?? Will let you know.
