They attach nicely, either between your wing/BC inflator and the LP hose connecting to it, or else at the end of your drysuit LP hose. It therefore makes no sense to keep this in a pocket.

What you should keep in a pocket is a spare mask, a jon line, a reef hook, and a surface marker buoy.

You don't use it UW, you don't use it 99% of the time, and having more buttons and leak points on a LP inflator is unwise - since its failure may let a substantial amount of gas leak. So keep the Dive Alert in your pocket on a small boltsnap. If you need it at the surface there's nothing so urgent that the 60 seconds it takes you to deploy it and push the button will make any difference.

Overall, their sound carries alot less than you'd think and is rarely detectable over an outboard motor. Not the panacea they are advertised to be. Make sure you have an SMB too.

thanks the reason i keep mine in my pocket is it makes my already too long hose way too long

I had the same problem. got a smaller hose.

(saw your other post that you were between jobs, so I understand that).

but I think putting it in your pocket just makes it more likely to be dropped. Either out of your pocket or when trying to attach it.

Think about it on the surface, you're wearing a mask which might limit range of visiion. your pocket is underwater when you have to retrieve it and you might have already surfaced (of course you can just put a reg in your mouth), you're likely to have gloves on making it harder to handle, and waves could knock you around on the surface. All easy ways to drop it when you need it most. just some thoughts.

I always have mine hooked up and use it to signal the boat often to come get me. They sink, I would not want to be messing with trying to hook one up on a rough day on the surface, while wearing thick gloves,, especially if I really needed it.

They work pretty well and can signal from farther away than a smb can be seen, but the boat needs to have the engines off and everyone needs to look and listen if a diver is overdue.

Mine is atached to my hose all of the time. And I have mine to get the attention of my buddy underwater. No, they don't advertise that they work underwater, but they make a loud noise underwater. Donna can hear it, it works.
