We are doing the 7 night eastern caribbean disney cruise in January 2007 and Myself and my daughter are planning on doing some scuba diving. Two of the islands that we have a day at are St Maartin and St Thomas. They do have a certified scuba excursion at each stop, but give little information about it. In particular they don't say what depths they will be dropping to. Just wondering if anyone has any info on LDS's in the area's in question. Maybe it would be better to try and set up a boat dive from a LDS instead. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Brian

IME, the cruise ship contractors are limited by the cruise lines to 70' on the first dive and 50' on the second on their shore excursions. If you want something deeper, you'll have to arrange it yourself. The good thing about the ship's shore excursions is that they'll hold the ship from leaving if the contractor's late. The bad thing is that you'll probably have a better time by arranging your own dives. That's been my experience.

Thanks for the reply, the reason I'm asking is because myself and my daughter will be OW certified and would want to stay within the 60' range. Are the cruise ships accomondating enough that if we say we don't want to go any deeper than 60', would they work with us or say too bad....

I would not be to concerned about depth. I was on a Disney Cruise and the diving was very basic stuff. Sign up with no worries and have a great time. We did.

I did St. Thomas last November. We were on the Disney Magic. I went ahead and booked it myself. The pickup was within walking distance of the ship and the op was great. Blue Island Diver's was the way to go for me.
