Marine life possibilities in October:

Magdalena Bay

  • Sardine run & striped marlin ambushes β€” the iconic bait-ball spectacle attracts marlin, silky sharks, sea lions, dolphins, birds, mobula rays, and occasionally mahi-mahi.
  • Fin whales may pass through during fall migrations; minke whales arrive by November.
  • Sea lions, dolphins, and silky sharks regularly feed on and around sardine bait balls.

Socorro Islands

  • Giant manta rays frequent cleaning stations and are commonly encountered.
  • Schooling hammerhead sharks, along with GalΓ‘pagos, silky, silvertip, whitetip reef, and tiger sharks patrol the area.
  • Whale sharks may appear later in the month as they migrate in for the season.
  • Dolphins are playful and often interact with divers.
  • Tuna, wahoo, barracuda, marlin, and other pelagic fish are regularly observed.
