Hello divers!

I am thinking of going to Tulumben to dive for a few days. I will be traveling thru Bali anyway, and my wife could pop in on her way from Perth to Singapore. She has never been to Indo. She is disabled - uses 2 canes and has trouble with balance, steps, etc. She can’t really go places unless it’s unbroken hard surfaces. The broken sidewalks and large steps typical of Bali are not really doable. She can do OK with my assistance but wondering if there is a resort/hotel that would be particularly easy (and enjoyable) for her. She saw Mimpi and got excited.

I would go on a day trip tour with her into the mountains to see the lush fields and such, but otherwise she would be resort-bound most of the time… we could take a car to go to dinners and such. Maybe a day or two in Ubud at a nice place. Also it would be mid-Feb (this would likely be next week or two) so it’s wet season, tho I was just in Bali for a couple days and it was not bad. Just an evening shower.

Recommendations on resorts/dive-ops/little tours to take?
And how would the conditions be for mid-Feb? If it's really great maybe I'd do longer.

Thanks!

Sidewalks are not good in Tulamben, many missing sections etc. Not sure there are any taxi/ubers, I never saw any. However, once in a resort, no real need to leave for food as most are pretty good. Best bet would be the ones that have ground floor accommodation and restaurants, some would be problematic as dining is up stairs. Most seem to have some stairs to get to dining areas.

Amed is a better possibility, newer sidewalks and better condition. Many accommodations close to the centre of the town. I stayed at Hotel Uyah which had few stairs, mostly none to accommodation and possibility of getting to dining and main street with none.

Maybe someone in who has a partner with similar disability might be able to advise better.

Hi Blue Bali Melasti is on sea-level. There are a two steps from bungalow onto to grass but then you're sea level and directly on the beach.
There is a ramp from hotel street entrance down to sea level.

I've stayed at Mimpi Tulamben and can report that it almost completely level, so should be safe and comfortable for you both to navigate. It is also a very nice resort, with great beachfront views, large pool, onsite restaurant, and spa. I think it will do nicely for you. Also, one of the nicer restos in town, Bake & Brew, is just outside the resort about 100 meters on a level street. You may be able to go there, or at least you could order take-out or delivery for some food variety. The pathways in Amed are in decent shape but rather narrow. They also do not have cutouts so people with mobility difficulties will have problems. In addition, most of the hillside and beachfront hotels in Amed have a lot of elevation and steps so are not good for you. Overall, Mimpi is a good choice.

No need for Uber or taxi in Tulamben, just ask the cornershop or any restaurant, they will arrange for a ride.
Otherwise hit Moyo or Ricky transport, they're locals with a fleet of vehicles and drivers, they will take and guide you anywhere in Bali :

I agree neither Tulamben nor Amed would be good walking for disabled people, missing parts/holes in the sideways of Tulamben, very narrow or inexistant sideways in Amed.

From the hotels I know in Tulamben, Mimpi or Tauch Tulamben should be the best choice with ground bungalows/accoms and restaurant.
