Hi All,

Finally a the local GUE go to guy, Dan Mackay from NTD in Kingston, has crawled out of the wood work and gotten a fairly meaningful thread going in the Basic Scuba Discussion/Sault Ste. Marie trip report thread. Sault Ste Marie Thread link added by DivingGal

For any of you that have any questions or wonder what it is about some useful information is actually being passed back and forth as well Dan threw down the gauntlet and challenged a few folks to think about silly little things such as buoyancy and trim and such. Go figure. A SCUBA instructor giving stuff away for free.

I just read that thread "Sault Ste Marie"..... Makes me glad I dive just for fun. Take a nice easy sport like diving that even a dummy like me can do, and make it seem like rocket science.

If I had to work that hard at diving I'd quit.

Doesn't your boat compete with Dan's for business in Kingston?

So what's your motivation behind that post?

Was it simply to try to damage the credibility of an instructor who actually cares about the quality of the other divers out there?

Sorry you got the wrong inpression about me!

I know and respect Dan's diving ability, he is a good instructor.

We do not compete for business: Dan runs a dive shop and is a dive instructor, I do not run a shop nor do I instruct, I run a dive charter and I send people to NTD "Dan's shop" all the time for gear and service, he with Tom R. run a great shop. Dan does not own a dive boat so we don't compete.

The post was a poke at "GUE dir" for sure I admit that. You got to remember I've been diving longer than about 90% of the people on this board and PADI has been good to me and I'm still alive without GUE. but to read some of the stuff on this board I should have been dead 15 years ago with my crappy gear and poor skills. Becoming a better diver is a great goal, Dan and GUE do a great job and I have seen my share of crappy divers, so inproving diving skills is a good thing.

But like I said in my other post. Its a nice easy sport, not rocket science! I think only about 10% of ceritifed divers in this sport will take it to the level GUE teaches. Most just want to do some reefs once a year and a couple of wrecks. for them PADI is great, simple and SAFE.

Thanks for posting. It should go a long way to clearing up misconceptions.

The fact of the matter is what you just stated. I think that the 10% level is pretty high. GUE does cater to a two different types of divers in general. Those who are curious about diving more aggressively and those who are sure that they want to go in that direction. The first lot have not made up their minds yet and just want to have a look see. The second have chosen the very best training available.
