DIR Friendly Florida Keys Charters

I'm loving diving warm water dry. And I second getting hold of Chris Brown of Silent World; if he isn't running a charter, he'll know who to recommend.

Max of two replies here since I'm hi-jacking the thread.

I've never used a dry suit. Never dove anywhere that it was necessary. Just curious. In a warm water location, wouldn't that make your out of the water time extremely hot and uncomfortable?

Another two thumbs-up for all the staff of Silent World Dive Center. I have been training with them the past two weekends and highly recomend their technical instruction as well as their supremely qualified surface support...

I would recommend Quiescence. They took just two of us out to the Spiegel Grove in a six pack so you have a lot of flexibility on where to go. Six packs do better in calm water. So my preference would be to take a six pack in the morning, and a bigger boat in the afternoon, when there is more wind chop. Silent World is good too, and is DIR freindly.

Most DIR divers are not diving drysuits with thermal protection integrated in the suit (ie, a neoprene suit). Shell suits are the most popular. The thermal protection is a result of the undergarments used. I've dove my drysuit in the summer with only Under Armor on and been more than comfortable.

As well, most people will strip the drysuit off for the surface interval.

Also, Rick Gomez is the local (Miami) GUE Fundies instructor. I know that Mark M also comes down to teach some Fundies classes as well out of Silent World. Both are excellent instructors.

I'm sure that given that its probably 10 degrees F in upstate NY - Bob Sherwood would probably PAY YOU to do a Fundies class in S. Florida. As someone pointed out, he's doing a T1 class now in Key Largo w/ Chris and the gang at SW. I also highly recommend Chris. He and AJ, one his Captains are about the only people I would trust for a tech dive in Key Largo.

The folks at Quiescence once told me that they were not "doubles friendly" due to the boat configuration. The six-packs aren't easy to get in/out of with doubles/stages/scooter etc (for tech dives), I've never gone out with them but sometimes go to their shop for fills. They are nice folks.

Silent World on Overseas Hwy, Key Largo, Also, I believe Horizon Divers also caters to DIR Divers. But I'd go with Silent World for sure.
