Hi all,

Here are some shots I took with the Olympus C4040Z in a FIX4040 Housing. INON D-180 and YS90DX with INON TTL sensor, Sea and Sea WAL and INON UCL-330 macro lens. Your critique is highly appreciated. All shots were taken in APERTURE setting, flash setting is -2.0 WB is AUTO, ISO 100.

Those are great, Allan! I especially like the detail of the 'slime' to the right of the Flamingo Tongue!

I have a few questions if you don't mind...

How does the INON TTL sensor work with the S&S YS90DX? Did you notice a big difference in the YS90DX without it?

Have you compared the S&S WAL to the INON WAL? Which do you like best?

Keep 'em coming!

Hi Dee,

Thanks :jester:

The INON TTL sensor for the YS90 DX plugs in directly to the 5 pin sync port of the YS90DX. It'll work with the OlyC4040z on Program Mode, no flash not OFF but you want to leave it blank when you go through the flash setting on your C4040Z. All of my pictures where taken with the INON D-180 and YS90DX with TTL sensor as a SLAVE strobe.

YS90DX setting:

The slave switch on the back of the strobe should be ON and the switch to turn on the strobe should be in TTL. Lighting setting is FULL. One thing I noticed when I was using the YS90DX with the INON sensor is the green light on the back of the SLAVE SWITCH will turn bright GREEN after the flash. This doesn't happen when you are using the fiber optic cable mounted to the front sensor of the YS90DX.

Is there a big difference? I think so. I really noticed the light intensity varies depending on the available ambient light. I also did some topside test shot before my trip and I'm convinced that it works. Maybe it's jsut me.

I really like the Sea and Sea WAL because it's a lot user friendlier. You get faster focusing response from the camera. I think it has to do with the optics. Less viewing angle than the INON but a lot lighter and less limitation than the INON.

Here is a sample of the Sea and Sea WAL limitation. You cannot shoot full wide.

I am still giving the INON another shot when I get the Dome Port for it. Keep you posted.

If you can't shoot the S&S on full wide, how much do you lose? Looks pretty wide to me!

I've had to cancel our Florida trip so the WA probably won't be needed until next summer. By then you should have all the bugs worked out, huh?!? Now that I think about it, a WA might be just what I need in the local spot...mmmm?

Dee,

If you look closely at the bottom corner of the picture. You'll see those 2 dark shades. It looks to me that the lens limitation has started to show up in the picture. If I'd zoomed in a tad more then it would have been perfect.

Also, it is best to mount the lens underwater instead of taking it down with you. Those notches on the side of the lens are not big enough to really flood the space between the port glass and the back glass of the WAL. Make sure there are no bubble formation on the port glass before you mount the lens. On my first dive I actually forgot to unscrew the lens underwater resulting to having poor images [result is half clear/half fogged up] it's no big deal but it's something to remember.

cool pics, i hav recently purchased an Olympus 3040Z and the PT010 housing, but haven't tried it underwater yet.

i've taken some great photo's with it top side though!

i was thinking of getting a wide angle lens for it, what is the S & S one like?

there are several around which is best for picture quality and not reducing camera speed/functionality?

i also aquired a Bonica Neon Strobe, but it is hard to tell if it actually works with the 3040 due to pre flash.

if i need to change the strobe, there are several, which one?:

Epoque ES150 digital strobe£149.99 no arm
Ikelite DS 50 (Olympus Package) £499 everything
Sea & Sea YS-25 DX £430 everything

bearing in mind i already have a tray and adjustable arm from the Bonica.

any help would be appreciated

regards

My wife and I just had an unfortunate accident with our camera which gives us a great excuse to get a new one. We have a Bonica Snapper that just flooded. We only ruined the $6 camera inside but the strobe is fine. We also ruined our Olympus Digital Camera topside, but it was an early model and not the best for diving. I have two questions:

1. What is the best buy for digital cameras?
2. Can I use my Bonica Strobe on most any digital camera?

Thank you for your feedback.

I don't know about using your Bonica strobe with the available housings. But I can highly recommend the Olympus C-4040 digital camera and Oly PT-010 housing. You don't HAVE to have a strobe to get started as the internal strobe works well when you need one within reason and with a few restrictions. with todays prices, you can get both the Oly camera and housing for under $1000

For a strobe the Sea & Sea YS90DX is my choice.

ps.....and don't forget DEPP floord insurance!!
