Something I learned tonight in class that I DID NOT KNOW. I am a photographer by trade, but am going to school to be an IT Systems Administrator. If you take your cameras with you through the security check points in the airports, make sure they go through the x-ray machine, and do not under any circumstances take them through the metal detectors, the metal detectors use a strong magnetic field to check for metal, and will scramble the data on any chips. The same thing goes with your laptops. I personally always ask that my camera bag be hand checked and the same thing goes for my laptop. It is a bit of a pain, but beats the hell out of losing photos or any data on my laptop. One other thing I do being that my camera and my laptop are usually together I burn a copy of my photos to a CD as soon as I can, that way you have a good backup no matter what happens.

Good advice, thanks!

Of course, the cameras, laptop, and everthing else is supposed to go thru the X-ray, and never be allowed thru the metal screener on your body, but - accidents happen. I fail to lay them down, they fail to stop me until it's too late.

It usually takes me a while to get thru security checks, with my reg, dive computers, digitial cameras, etc. in my roll-on; take my boots and hat off; and so forth. It'd be hard to get in a hurry with security as it is today. But it could happen. :11:
