Always on, shooting raw no reason to ever worry about 0.5 stop loss unless you are trying to light up a whole wreck. Better color temp too, at least with the z240
 
I always use my diffuser - my field of coverage (AF35) is just to narrow and I get hot spots if I do not

Most strobe companies will have one or two different diffusers with different ratings. My Inon strobes came with both a 0.5 and 1.0 stop diffusers and they are labeled as such. Most other companies do something similar so you should be able to figure out how much light you will lose with the diffuser, typically between 0.3 and 1.5 stops.
