difference between high and low pressure ports

Actually, all ports were the same size 20 years ago. It's very easy to mess up if you have an older regulator. The LP hoses of today will fit in high pressure ports from around '84 or '85 or before. This is not good for your equipment. When in doubt, screw an SPG (if you have a modern hose, you'll need an adaptor) into the port (make sure you have at least 1 low pressure port IDed before hand so you can attach a second stage to purge the system) and hook the regulator up to a full tank. If the SPG shows between 100 - 150 PSI, you've found a LP port.
