Is that possible if one has an overnight layover? Or does Delta make you check it in again for the international leg of your itinerary? If through-checking all the way to BON is permitted, then yes, it seems like that would be the logical thing to do. I have never had an overnight layover with an itinerary through the same airline, so I am curious. Why would the airline NOT allow it? Of course, with Delta and the idiosyncrasies of ATL, the easy and logical thing is not always the reality.

We do an overnight in ATL on the way to BON--if less than 12 hours between flights they will check it thru to BON--greater than 12 hours between flights they will not.........all of our flights are Delta. So arrive in ATL around 10 pm and all is cool! This as of last June, our last trip.

Haven't gone this route in a couple of years, but the last few times they did not let us check it through. And before that I had to argue in NY that this was a special case. Actually the last time I tried I had a Delta person say to me, "do you really want your luggage hanging around here all night?" Made me go hmmmmm. Definitely a YMMV...

That is one thing I dont think i would like to do is leave my luggage overnight, i have heard horror stories even down to some dove chocolates being lifted.

Wow, the information I received from Lorenzoid was absolutely right on!!!
Billy took cab from airport to hotel even though hotel offered a shuttle, but it was only about $10.
Then this morning took cab to terminal F international and everything worked like clockwork.( well almost but it was remedied: ordered cab night before, cab was a no show so had to order another one at 7am, flight was at 9:10).... but all went well.
Thank you to the scuba board members experiences and advise, my husband was able to navigate pretty well
considering he was operated on a few weeks ago.

FYI: Accomodations: priceline.com at the Courtyard Marriott north $72: King bedroom with sofa was supposed to have separate living area(nope) - not like the pictures but according to hubby was clean and comfortable,
only 2.6 miles from airport. And like He said,,,, it was a nice room for $72.
no room service, but bistro with hot food and a variety menu on premise along with a bar - starbucks is on site too.

Thank you Lorenzoid, your information was spot on!. Husband took the cab $10 to the international terminal F the next morning. All went very well.
Since the hotel was so close to the airport, I think he stayed at the Holiday Inn, not sure, instead of the shuttle he opted for a cab fare was only $10.

If the hotel shuttle service insists they cannot take your husband to the International terminal, then it would indeed be less hassle to take a cab from the hotel directly to the International terminal ("F"). Otherwise, if the shuttle were to drop him off at the Domestic terminal, he would have to take yet another (infuriatingly slow) shuttle that runs between the Domestic and International terminals.

All nonstop flights departing from Atlanta for international destinations (that is, with no intervening domestic connection) depart from the International terminal. Passengers on these flights are not permitted to check in at the Domestic terminal (hence the free shuttle between Domestic and International). Rather, they must check in by entering the International terminal directly from the outside.

You might logically think that because there is an underground train that ferries passengers among various gates along the entire route (over a mile) between the Domestic and International terminals that they would simply let you arrive at the airport at either end--Domestic or International--and then board the train and take it all the way to the opposite end, but that is not the case.

The system especially sucks for us Atlantans. The MARTA light rail system ("subway" or whatever) that I can take from where I live to the airport serves only Domestic and not International. So when I leave for Bonaire via the MARTA, I arrive at Domestic and then immediately walk outside and take the shuttle to International. Ditto on the return trip. On the return, when I land at International and exit Immigration/Customs, I am not permitted to board the train that could very easily take me to Domestic where I could catch the MARTA. Rather, since I don't have an onward boarding pass, they wouldn't let me through. So I need to go outside the International terminal and take the infuriatingly slow shuttle bus back to the Domestic terminal.

I hope this clears it up for y'all! ;)
