Just got home from the LDS. I'm putting together my rig for an upcoming trip and they had the ScubaPro MK25/G250 with a R295 octo and a Genesys 2 gage console for $559. I'm honestly not at all interested in that console, I want to swap it out for a brass&glass SPG to clip onto my harness. Was this a good deal? Am I going to be happy with my purchase? I've got 14 days if I change my mind.....

Currently I'm just a recreational diver, but I'm planning on taking some tech classes. I'm attempting to buy stuff so that my rig is basically DIR.

and anyone want to buy a 2 gage console - never used? *grin*

How about MK17/G250HP with R190? I think this combination is a little bie cheaper. Get some entry level computer instead of 2 gauge console, such as a bottom timer.

what you have is a very good setup. I do like the MK17 better than the Mk 25, but they are both good regs, and you will be very happy with it for a while. A good buy at that price too I think.

I'm not as familiar with the Genisis console you have, but I do own the MK 25 / G250 first and second stage. It is a great reg.

I use to live in the islands and used it on hundreds of dives before I was able to service it. I gave me no troubles.

Before the hurricane hit the island all of the staff (many of us had the MK 25 / G250 or S600) stored their gear in the shop. The shop was flooded during the surge and all of our gear was burried under 3 feet of sand, rubbish, equipment, etc. After digging out our gear all of we found our regs packed with sand inside the first and second stages. After cleaning them out we hooked them up to a tank and tried out the regs. They worked. However, none of us were willing to take the reg on a dive just to see if worked at depth.

What you can do with your console is pull out the SPG then put aside the rubber console and depth gauge. But if you want to purchase a depth guage Halcyon has a very nice one. Though, a bit pricey. There are other brands that work just as well and cost less such as Scubapro or Diverite.

Salaam

thanks chris - that was my though. Although I just wish the dive shop had just kept the console and taken money off the deal. They claim the console is worth $150 - I know I can't get anywhere near that much for it.

Get your SPG from Soggy... he's on here and TDS.

Go with it... It's a good price and it'll route great on doubles.

yup - it's the G250HP.

So the dealer told me that they can change the first stage from yoke to DIN if I need that in the future.... that true?

That is a very nice rig and you got a good price. The console is worth the money. I have a similar setup (MK-20/G250/R190) and replaced the console depth gauge with my backup computer, an old Oceanic DataPlus. You could do the same now with one of the Veos.
