Hi! I didn't want to butt in on scubadive425's post so I thought a new thread wouldn't be too out of line. We are looking for a dive destination for the last week of November, first week of December this year. We have been to Bonaire the last two years in a row and absolutely love it but thought we should try something else as there is a lot of ocean out there. Most of the destinations that we have looked at (Caribean mostly) say their rainy season is Nov - Jan. Anybody have any suggestions?

San Andres Island and/or Old Providence Island, depending on what you like in a diving destnation, are two destination mostly overlooked with great reviews from those who do ventuve. San Andres is more tourisy with resorts and nightlife and Old Providence is laid back and geared toard eco toursim and nature.

Snowdiver - your profile is blank. Could you fill it in so we can understand more about you. You said "we", so I am guessing you are traveling with another diver. What type of diving do you want? If you loved Bonaire, then you probably like to dive dive dive..... ever consider a liveaboard? I would say look at Nekton which will have a boat in Belize and another one in St. Croix during that time period. Nekton Diving Cruises - Comfort, Stability, Worldclass Diving
or
Explorer Ventures has liveaboard boats that get good reports

Do you have a particular price range in mind? Caribbean only? What type of things do you want to see underwater? Big stuff or little stuff? Are you a photographer?

We've visited Cozumel, Dominica, Saba, St. Vincent, Bequia and the BVI in that time frame. Weather was fine in all but the water was murkiest and roughest in the BVI. I'd recommend choosing one of the mountainous islands as that would be a big change -- in the same sea -- from Bonaire.

All of the desinations in the Caribbean should say that. It is the end of the Hurricane season which means it's the start of the tropical storm season. Hurricanes just loose force potential and become heavy rain showers.

You are traveling in 2008 weeks of the New Moon, and that is usually the most unsettled phase, weatherwise.

Do a:search:here on ScubaBoard for this often asked and well discussed topic.

If you trace a line from the ABC Islands, Los Roques, Margaritte all the way to the "left" (West) following the coastline of islands, San Andfres, etc., and end up at the Bay Islands- that is the group of islands that are the "most stormproof" during the season. They still get the spin-off rains from the Huricanes as they head to the Northwest.

The same applies to the late season tropical depressions. Your trips to Bonaire may have spoiled you- that's the best weather for that time of year. Arguably, Bonaire has the best weather of any Caribbean island if you look at the entire year.

Bottom line? Yep... that's it- use the bottom line of the Caribbean basin and there's the most storm proof of all the Scuba spots at that time of year.
