I have made this dive several times. Its easy and fun. There is a beach under the Destin Pass bridge on the west side, makes for very easy entry. The sandy bottow slopes off to about 30' with lots of ridges and valleys along the way. I have seen alot of tropicals, sea horses, big schools of bait fish and mullet, snapper and grouper on previous dives. The bridge columns hold alot of life.

With it being the pass, you have to time the tides right. I prefer high tide since the water under the bridge is gulf water, as opposed to low tide when the water will be coming out of the bays. High tide saturday, 0833 and 2324 on Sunday, 1034.
Any one interested?

Scuba066, I'm going to be out of twon this weekend but I normally would. Hey, was that you at the dive club meeting in GB? I was sitting behind you at the same table I think.

yes, I was at the meeting.
If not this weekend maybe next. The east side of the pass is even better. It is about 40 feet deep with huge chunks of old bridge rubble jutting straight out of the sand for about 20 feet. Alot of blue crab and stone crab and other creatures. My last dive there, schools of big red fish kept coming though looking for crabs, crushed stone crab bodies were lying all about. It is a boat dive though. I have always wanted to get a group together and rent a pontoon boat for some diving there. It is a great dive and you get a lot of bottom time.

Are you talking about the Destin Jetties on the East side before the pass out into the gulf? If so you know you can walk to it right? It is a hump of death but it is doable, I've done it a couple times now.

Also, In terms of next weekend...... I can't say for sure right now as that's Vortoberfest weekend. I may be planning a speed run trip to Ginnie Springs, or diving at PCB Jetties, and for sure Navarre and Vortex!

nope, I am talking about right under the bridge span. The east side rivals "offshore" dives. It is very nice. It might be possible to do a shore dive on the east side. There is a very small parking spot on the north side of 98 just before the bridge. The trip down to the water is a steep rip rap wall. Might be doable though.

High tide on Saturday is 1210. We could meet under the bridge on the west side of the pass. There is a little access road just before you get on the bridge that leads down to the beach. We could meet there at eleven, probably be in the water by 1130 to 1145 and have a nice long dive.

I show the high tide is at 1245 AM. (As in almost 1 in the morning). We may want to rethink this plan. Plus it's Vortoberfest, I'm in the midst of trying to figure out the best game plan for the most diving at the best locations with the best tides as we speak.
