I have been diving the finger jetty at Destin for many years. I was looking at an aerial view of the jetties this morning and noticed that the end of the west jetty appears to have some deep water around it.

Since it sticks out into the Gulf, I was wondering if it had much of interest to see.

Has anybody explored the southern tip of the west jetty and what did you find?

I haven't herd of anyone diving it but there are always boats and people on the jetty fishing.

It'd be a pain in the butt to get to without a boat.

I dove the West Side Jetty a few years back off of a friends boat. It isn't a bad dive. Like Hetland said, the currents on that side are brutal...even when you catch the tides right. Also, fishermen and boats are really dangerous on that side. Large boats really zip through there when they are heading West.

But, if you dive from a boat, watch the tides, dodge the fishermen in boats and fishing from the jetty, have a dive flag, and stick close to the rocks...it should be a good dive. ;)

I know folks that have dove the West side under the bridge, and the consensus is that the current can be brutal. Definitely diveable, but caution is required.
