It’s a heating wire. They’re the older version of the GEARS 12v motorcycle heated socks.
Most of the heated undersuit manufacturers say that the socks are the biggest area of problems. Santi won't sell their heated socks to the public - only to military and police dive units as they will put the socks on a replacement cycle. Another manufacturer says replace the socks after one year or 50 hours - whichever comes first.
 
A question for everyone - how much heat do these panels really need to output? I've seen figures from some heated undersuit manufacturers saying theirs heat to 45 degC (about 115 degF) - but is it necessary for the heat to go that high? Looking at it from a safety aspect - it would seem that the lower the maximum operating temperature that the panels need to reach while still doing their job would seem to be the way to go with these things. Would somewhere around 35 degC be sufficient?
