The laser focus on catching stuff can be our downfall. Lobster season seems to cause an uptick in fatalities in California that probably are just like your story but with slight variation, like waiting a couple more minutes. You can really burn air wrestling a lobster out of a deep crevice. Lucky you caught yourself and handled it well. I been there and finally quit doing that.

Better to avoid.

Hmm. It is much larger, but reptiles, or reptile like, can reduce their metabolism. How much air does a T-Rex need for a safe ascent? Also, given the length of a T-Rex does it risk DCS if it quickly goes from horizontal to vertical?

well perhaps the biggest problem it has is removing the fins after the dive and they spend a fortune on regs to try and get them to last never mind fit properly

Sorry, on a totally different part of the video that struck me as California diver. In Cali you only can have a bag and a gauge when hunting for lobsters, nothing else. Is spear gun allowed in Florida while lobstering? I looked it up and rule says "no device that penetrates or could penetrate". Spear gun "could". Would it be a subject of interpretation? Not flaming, just inquiring.

Its not uncommon for Florida spearos to also carry gear to lobster on the same dive. You can not use the spear gun to lobster but having a spear gun along for the dive does not prohibit grabbing a lobster by hand, net or loop.

In NJ - and I think FL as well - you can spear fish and hunt lobsters at the same time - however you can not spear a lobster. If Fish and Game find a lobster with a hole in it - you will be in for a hefty fine.

So the spear was not being used to lobster but to spear fish. I bring a bag and a spear - because the sites I go to can have both or one or the other...

Oh, ok. Much different from Cali,where we are not allowed to bring anything at all (so, no hoops or nets either) only your hands, bag and measuring device, and cannot mix activities on the same dive. Interesting, didn't know that.

I think the most strick interpretation would be that a pole spear and or a speargun would not be allowed to be in possession. However, as long as you don't present lobsters with any puncture wounds (is speared) then the MAN is not going to be concerned.

In fact, at the start of lobster season, I was "rescued " by the coast guard and they were very concerned about my lobsters and checked them carefully,. They said nothing about my speargun.. made for another interesting video - if anyone cares?

Yeah, in California you cannot have speargun or even a stick in possession, regardless of the condition of the lobster. I guess you could have a camera with a selfies stick that you could use to "tickle" the lobster but that's about it. Sorry but this struck me more then the rest of the video. Probably because I've seen this computer "deco" clear on my computer on slow ascend when I cut it close on ~100' deep dives.

This video of the day's adventures ends with me diving alone in a screaming current, the boat breaking down and drifting away and subsequently calling the Coast Guard for a "lost diver scenario" - all this AND the USCG found my float and was waiting for me on the surface BEFORE I even knew there was a problem.

After I was ordered to board their boat - they were very intent on trying to find an illegal lobster in my bag.. then when they returned me to the broken down boat, they then had to check the boat for illegal lobsters, check everyone's ID - (even those not diving) and during the process they were unable to determine if my license was valid..so they ask me - if i am allowed to catch lobsters.

Then, they have to go through a full boat safety check and when that is all fine they leave us, floating off in a 3 kt current with a broken down vessel. Sea Tow was able to provide assistance to the vessel - but not the coast guard.
