My wife and I were diving off of Fort Lauderdale a few weeks ago and while on the surface post-dive we were both stung on our necks and hands, but my wife took the brunt of the pain. There were small, dime-sized transparent creatures in the water that I assume are what caused the stings. My wife had some welts on her neck for a few days but most went away fairly quickly, except for one on her throat. It just recently scabbed off.
In the past few days (8-10 days after the dive), my wife has been feeling a bit under the weather. One of her lymph nodes on her neck has swollen to the size of a grape and hurts, and the rest of her glands on her neck are somewhat enlarged. In addition, the welts have returned both on her neck and her hands (they look like pimples but they're not).
Our doctor was completely baffled, and has no idea what's wrong. She's showing no symptoms except for the rash and the lymph nodes. He had her take a blood test (results are still pending), and put her on a course of oral antibiotics due to the size of her lymph node, pending the results of the blood test.
Has anyone ever seen or heard of a delayed reaction like this happening before? Is this likely related to our dive or something else?
Thanks for your help.
