I use travel as an excuse to buy more gear. I now have dedicated warm water travel backplate/18lb wing but my other backplate/38lb wings works as well.

I have been using a travel BC, Scuba Pro Lite Hawk, for both Caribbean travel and New England diving. I used different thicknesses of wetsuits on my first 2 trips, but now I just take a 5mm that I use at home as well. All other gear is the same for both, except for a couple of torches that have a wider beam. I use those on night dives.

I even have a travel PRAM double hose (one I'm willing to put in saltwater)...

i have 4 rigs.
one bcd i use mostly for training new ow students.
one steel bp/w for cold water diving with drysuit etc. and two for sidemount. one of which is used on holidays for warm water double or single tank sm. the other hangs in the closet feeling sad cuz it never gets used.
to me, bringing a steel bp/w to mexico would be like bringing a 7mm drysuit instead of a 3mm wet suit.

Echoing this, Lite Hawk for all my dives, just take a different wetsuit based on water temperature (shorty vs full).

For those of you who travel, do you own a designated travel BCD or own just one and use that for everything?
Looks like I will be be in the minority.

My wife and I have one rig a piece.

We do, however primarily dive tropical.

This standardization allows us pack the same gear each time and to know what our weighting needs to be, regardless of the destination.

Frankly, I have never understood the need for “travel-specific” equipment, which in my mind, requires an extra effort to dive versus simply suiting up to go.

I have 30 lb wing, Alu and SS BP that both has harness, SS and Alu STA, I mix and match depending on situation.

Right now I am on vacation with steel BP and STA because I had enough luggage capacity.

I just got back yesterday from a vacation to Mexico, where I brought my SS plate and a 32lb wing. Diving in the ocean with an AL80 and a t-shirt, I added 2lbs of lead. Diving in the cenotes with a single AL80 and a 3mm, I added 3lbs. Both setups worked great for my needs.

Locally, I use the same SS plate and 32lb wing for all single-tank diving in either an 8mm wetsuit or in a drysuit. I do use a 45lb doubles wing locally for double steels with a drysuit.

I also own an aluminum plate, which I never use, and I see no need to purchase a smaller wing for travel either. Traveling into or out of the US, checked bags can usually weigh up to 50 pounds, and this trip my checked bag weighed 49.5 pounds :)

I'm only diving warm water currently. One rig using steel plate and 18lb wing. It doesn't matter whether I'm driving to Florida or flying.
