...is inner ear DCS always observed quickly, or can it develop after several days?
The short answer is "Call DAN."
And, if you can answer a couple of questions for us, our medical experts can zero in on probabilities a whole lot better (and we may all benefit from the info :) )
1. What was your dive profile(s)?
2. What are your symptoms?

Hi bleeb,

Time to onset figures vary a bit depending upon the source, but teh following from the U.S. Navy/TDI is representative:

Time to onset (% of cases)

- within 1 hour=42%
- within 3 hours=60%
- within 8 hours=83%
- within 24 hours=98%
- within 48 hours=99%

Regards,

DocVikingo

Have you (or anyone else) seen time to onset stats also related to severity of symptoms?

BTW, just in case anyone on the Internet reading this thread does not know what DAN is here is the link:
DAN: Divers Alert Network - Scuba Diving and Dive Safety Association

The toll free number is also on the banner of this thread since it was moved to the Diving Medicine Forum…. which should be kept in everyone’s dive kit.
