At the end of November/ Early December, we're going to be passing through Los Cabos on a Cruise. We appear to have two days there, and are considering doing a couple of dives.

I've seen some epic youtube videos from Gordo Banks, and I was wondering if the Hammerheads would likely still be around at that time?

We are both at least Rescue Divers with several hundred dives each(we can handle the deep), and last time we saw a school of hammers it was a truly Zen experience. I've been going through last years reports but I'm getting mixed reviews of diving around this time.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Bredman, Gordo Banks is not a good Dive that time of year the currents are bad and it can get really windy.Be carefull if someone offers you a trip at that time of year because you wont see anything. Its also a early morning trip at 7:00 am so I dont think it would work because you cant get off the Ship that early.
You can do a Two Tank Dive to any of the local sites at 8:30 to 12:30 or 11:30 to 3:30
Let me know if your interested. We do pickups at the Cruise ship Dock.
Thanks Dee

Thanks for the reply. What is the more appropriate season and are do they still exist in this area? It seems that every year, I'm traveling farther and farther to see hammerheads.

If you're able to take in a Socorro's liveaboard during this same time period you'll be sure to see them...we must have had not just a single hammerhead, but schooling hammerheads with numbers into the hundreds, on 15 or so of the dives there. The Socorros trips begin in November. I dove GB a couple of months ago which apparently is the time to see hammerheads, but only saw a few briefly on one dive, although the group that had gone a couple of days before us saw quite a few, and many up close

Thanks for the reply. I've been looking at Socorro/Revillagegado trips for years now, actually. They're out of the budget and time-frame for this trip, but will certainly be on the radar in the future. This is exactly what I meant when I mentioned going farther and farther every year to see them.

Ever since my Layang Layang trip, I've been hungry to see more - schools of hammers were by far the most beautiful thing I've ever seen diving.

Looks like this trip will be local dives only, though.

Cheers
