Hi All

I am looking to book a diving holiday over Christmas and new year. I was interested in Bali but not sure on the weather that time of year. Also Mauritius I have dived the Maldives several times and wondered if that was similar. Or also Zanzibar. My partner is a non diver so I need a nice base with beach, and of course good weather. If anyone can give me any info on any of these destinations I would be grateful.

Cheers
Chris

December is rainy season for Bali, but it will not stop you diving, just maybe affect the vis on certain dive sites close to river run-offs. It tends to rain heavy for an hour or so, then dry out again, but rains mostly in the late afternoon or evening, so no problem for your beach partner. Pack an umbrella and light waterproof jacket for evenings, in case you get caught out.

Don't know if you've researched areas to stay in Bali yet; please, please do not stay in Kuta (unless you want to be shoulder to shoulder with drunken Australians), if this is your first visit, I'd suggest basing yourself in Sanur. Lots to do, nice long beach front walk, many shops and restaurants and hotels to suit all budgets. If you want to be even closer to the dive sites (to avoid long transfers each day), try staying in Padang Bai, or CandiDasa in the East. More rural, like traditional Bali, less 'sterile' than Kuta and Nusa Dua in the South.

I can also suggest dive centres in each area, if you want more info, just drop me a PM.

Happy safe diving

Bali offers the best diving of the three, although as divewench mentioned it's rainy season.. that's never kept me from going during that time though. Zanzibar probably second best diving. Mauritius diving not at all like Maldives. All three have nice beaches and are fantastic to travel to (diving aside).

December was our rainiest month last year with more than 300mm of precipitations. Most rainfall occurred at nighttime and we still enjoyed more than 6 hours daily sunshine on average.
