Huh, I didn't really think this thread was funny....

Anyway, I let my friend borrow my BP/W for a dive this weekend and he is convinced now :)

Although he doesn't want a hog harness, he wants something with a chest strap. Fair enough.

On a side note... Maine Water is cold! :)

Thanks for helping me prove my point to him.

I read the whole thread, I'm looking into getting my first bcd any day now, I have established from the thread that a jacket style would maybe be better for a new diver (just finished advanced). I assume back inflating ones are more expensive than jacket style ones? Another reason why a jacket may suit me better?

There are a number of hybrid back inflators and they don't tend to be any more expensive than standard jacket style BCD. I have a Sherwood Tortuga that is a very capable BC for recreational diving warm or cold, fresh water or salt.

About the best you could hope for from a jacket would be that it would not be decidedly worse. The jacket may be OK, but it will never be better. Will it be less expensive? Not if you end up replacing it with a BP/W in a couple years.

This topic has a tendency to generate fairly passionate replies. A lot of that comes form people feeling the dive industry guided them into buying mediocre gear. But even the jacket will not actually kill you. So if you have the opportunity go ahead and try them both before purchasing.
