Awesome shrine to probably a ton of memories.

That lampshade is DA BOMB! I want one (or two)!...details on how to get one would be appreciated.

With all due respect.....you do realize that this beloved tank will never descend into the watery blue again? No more trips to the depths of the ocean. No more comforting embrace by it's buddy the "bc". The days of safety stops and SI's are all in the past. Please, please let's not commercialize such a passing. :depressed:

mselenaous,
I would think it to be tastless to say to a veteran's widow "the flag on the coffin is the bomb, where can I get one" but under the circumstances no offence was taken.
The coffin draping was an old lamp shade re-covered with fabric purchased at the local craft and fabric store. It was made by a friend.

Call me callous but what up is all this shrine stuff? Just taking up good real estate space. Should of said a few hail marys with a stiff drink, dropped of the remains at the scrap yard, and had it cremated. :).

Cause of Death ... OOA :D

Yes, it could be reincarnated as 878 beer cans.

I'm such a :dork2:. Apologies for the faux paz. I equated it to a trophy like a taxidermied bear skin rug, stag head or sailfish.

The wing is in mourning too. I understand the tank was wrapped up in the relationship. Oh well, without his buddy the tank, the wing felt deflated.

I realize some might consider this question insensitive, but what was the cause of death.

I spoke to the coroner and the cause of death was a failed eddy current test. The testing procedure used was a hydro first (5000 psi) to open or expand any cracks followed by the eddy current test. There is a crank in the threads that start from the bottom and go up half way to the top. I can see the crack.
The coroner also told me that most of the cylinders of that alloy are passing the hydro but then fail the eddy test.
