I often film in very shallow (1 foot) and brightly lit freshwater springs and the footage often turns out terrible. The natural light bounces of the bottom and fish and the resulting video is soft, a bit blurry and washed out. Even on cloudy days it seems to be an issue. I'm using a sony cx550 and all "auto" settings, but have access to the manual controls.

The cx550 gives great video and I only have trouble with the very shallow brightly lit shots. The shallow shots look almost identical to my old $70 vivitar u/w flip cam's footage. I'm a beginner and only use auto settings, is this an experience problem or something camera settings can improve on?
Anxious to hear any thoughts on the issue.
