I spent 4 days diving in Dauin in late May and had a fantastic time.

I stayed at Wellbeach which is on the Dauin/Zamboanguita border. It's a very small resort and was only me and one other diver for the first 2 days and just me for the last 2 days.
My dive guide was really good, he's been diving the area for over 20 years and was one of (if not) the best spotters I've ever had.

Did a day trip to Apo island which was really good, corals super healthy. Got to see a decent sized school of jackfish but apparently it was bigger pre COVID when not over fished.

This was my first trip doing photography having previously only used a GoPro for vids. I used an Olympus TG 6 and was impressed with it for macro.

All dives other than Apo island were shore entry. We would drive to the dive site in a little van, most sites within 10 minutes.

The night dives on the house reef were spectacular. Lots of giant frogfish and sleeping turtles.

I look forward to returning already.

Uff. We had 3 weeks planned in Dauin and then the stupid covid happened. Guess we're putting that back on the "to-go" list.

Thank you for the report and the photos.

Thanks for the report. I am headed to Dauin in September for 11 days, after a few days in Moalboal. I did apo island in January, accessed from Siquijor. Thanks for the pics as well, I just bought a backscatter flash for my tg-6. I am learning all of the settings on tha5 camera, there is a whole lot that it can do for a relatively simple camera.

A few more photos from the trip

I have dived a number of places recently in the Philippines and this is definitely on the return list. Hopefully you can make it out there

I am using flood lights on my light tray at the moment, haven't invested in a strobe thus far. I followed the backscatter recommendations for the underwater photo settings. Tbh the number of settings and options is a bit overwhelming for me so was happy to go with what they suggested

Need to work on my night diving photo setup for sure

We just spent two weeks at Dauin in December, we found diving ok but not as good as expected for nudis and macro stuff in honesty. Apo was hood for reefs but lacked big fish even as most have been taken.we saw the normal like flambouyant cuttle fish and occasional froggies
We stayed at Mikes and found Gabbie an excellent guide, but have dived better places..could just be December is not a good month
