date stamp

hello all
I used my dad's nikon 5100 for a couple of dives, and got a couple of nice pictues! the issue i have is he had the date stamp on, can this be removed? I want to blow them up to poster size for my office and the stamp would look funny. thanks mike

It can certainly be edited out with any decent editing software, but I am unaware of an option where the camera can "turn it off" after a picture has been taken. But I could be wrong.
