All,
I have an oceanic datatrans plus. When I purchased it used, it came on a retractable cable. When I sent it back to oceanic for calibration, I took it off of the retractor. When I got it back, it was on a wrist band. Anyway, I don't know how to get the wristband off. Could someone help me? I don't have a manual for the retractor, and I can't find any information online.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Er, actually, I need a replacement wristband, so if you can get it off, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands.

You'll need a 1/16" pin punch (or something similar.)

Each band is held on by a friction-fit pin. If you look where the wristband pieces meet the case, you should be able to see the pin; it meshes the case and the band, just like a door hinge. Both top and bottom pins are driven in from the same end; the end where the battery compartment lid screws on. To remove them, you'll need to drive them out from the other end. As long as you drive them out in the correct direction (the head end is larger, so direction is critical) and avoid bending them along the way, it really is that simple.

Sweet. I'll try it and let you know. If I get it off without destroying the band, you are welcome to it.

worked. Although, they put the pin in backwards... doh.

PM me your address and I'll mail you out the wrist band. It may take a few days to drop it in the mail... Assuming I get it out before I head to FtLaud.

Thanks,
Chris

Wilco. FWIW, another handy tip (disclaimer, I haven't tried it yet, but it seems sensible.) Pop down to the office supply store and pick up a set of "screen protectors" for a PDA (typically 12 for $15 or so.) A little trimming, and you have a screen protector.
