hi, im going to dahab over Xmas and was wondering what suit will be necessary?

i have a 5mm 2 piece (steamer and shorty) and am not sure whic to take, i dont think ill need bothe but will the shorty be enough or do you recommend the full suit.

thanks guy

Most people in Dahab this time of year wear at least a 5mm 2-piece, even though I personally felt it was too much, as I don't get cold easily. A shorty alone will not really do, however, unless you are really tough. Last year in April I was the only one to dive in a shorty (long sleeves), and I started to get cold after about 45 minutes or so. Water temperatures will be around 21-22° C.
Bring something warm for after the dives, especially in the afternoon when the sun is behind the mountains, it gets chilly very quickly, and it is usually very windy, too.
Enjoy

hey there, i haven't been to dahab since 2000, but i've dived there 4 times. i was there in the months of march and august. in march a 5mm 2 piece was absolutely necessary, in august 5mm isn't a must, but if you don't need too much lead it still might be a good idea. the desert is warm, the sea is cool. enjoy, dahab is my favorite spot in the world, shore diving better than most great barrier reef liveaboards.the canyon is my favorite location above or below water on the planet! chill, laid back life above water that can't be beat (i understand that development has been considerate since i was there, but bedouin life is bedouin life). i highly recommend a day(or more) trip to sharm to dive the thistlegorm wreck, it's one of the best WW II era wrecks in the world.
peace
